Twitter + Dinosaur Comics Mashup
Does exactly what it says on the tin. Takes a Tweet from the Public Timeline and splices it together with a random second panel from Dinosaur Comics via Maddison Karlsdottir’s script. I cannot take credit for the idea, which belongs to Bing at Cakebomb, but I couldn’t see the idea not be completely fulfilled. This is a direct link to the generating URL.
It now caches the Public Feed, gathering 20 tweets every five minutes. This was because it was (easily) using up the 100 API requests an hour that Twitter lets you have, and so died early on in the hour before ticking over to the next one. All fixed now! Sorry if you tried it while it was not playing ball.
Lastly, if you know an elegant way to remove the antialiasing of imagettftext() in PHP whilst not introducing gaps in many of the letters in Lucida Console size 10 due to (what I presume is) resampling, I’d love to hear it. It’s got me beat. Leave a comment or let me know at alex@thisdomain.net
I have no idea have to solve that programming problem, but this is amazing. I’ve hit refresh about 20 times, and it just keeps getting better. Non sequitur T-Rex makes every tweet hilarious!

This is great. It’s just a shame that it can’t filter out all the gibberish tweets (particularly the ones with characters that the font doesn’t recognise, but also the ones in languages I don’t understand.)

This is amazing! Good job!
My only thoughts are: it would be awesome if there was a link one could share the product with, like when you get a truly awesome one. Probably be too hard, though, engineering-wise.
Also, maybe a way to filter out the twitter-code, like the @’s and the urls. Might make it cleaner.

i didn’t think you needed to log in and use the API to get the public timeline. you can get the the public timeline as an atom feed, or in JSON, and don’t need to have an account linked to the API

i really love to use Twitter. i was addicted to Blogging before the birth of Twitter. Now i am addicted to Twitter.

This is the best, you’ve absolutely got to expand on this idea and make more comics. Or at least make a longer comic!
